In the dark shade of the huge Gnarlies, a surely unwelcome guest prowled. DarkClan territory is for DarkClan cats! Thought a small brown tabby she-cat who stood quietly underneath the canopy of branches. I wonder how hard it would be to climb one of those. Twiggy thought. Humph, why not give it a shot? Shrugging her shoulders, thinking nothing bad could happend, Twiggy launched herself at the nearest tree with as much force as she could muster. The brown she-cat gave a satisfied grunt as her claws sank deep into the trees bark. Slowly, she edged her way up, like a caterpillar or one of those inch worms, she made her way to the first branch of the tree which was about ten feet off the ground. She lay on her belly, her feet hanging off both sides, swinging lightly as she happily lay on her branch where no one could see her. Twiggy watched patrol after patrol of DarkClan cats pass below her, their noses not detecting the foreign scent. She almost laughed out loud. They were completely oblivious to her, as they wandered warily below her. Twiggy even caught glipses of what looked like hunting patrols as they prowled through the forest, in search of prey. Too bad, Twiggy thought, I could do with a little fighting action!

Moonfeather:
The trees were casting dark shadows over the floor as a lithe figure padded over the hard packed earth. Her black midnight pelt was glossy and well kept, a striking difference to what it was only a few moons ago. Lean muscles rippled the night hued fur as the female trotted along, nose in the air for scenting. Tufted ears swiveled back and forth, detecting the slightest sounds. A long, feathery tail swept majestically over the cracked, dry leaves that sprinkled over the floor. Deep blue eyes scanned the shadows, looking intently for any sign of what she was looking for. The beautiful black coat she bore was interrupted only by a small, silver crescent moon shape that settled between the bones of her chest. The mesmerizing feline stopped, scenting that air again. Her eyes traveled over the shapes traced on the ground by the tree branches. All seemed normal. Until an irregular shape in the shadows caught her eye. The shape of a cat sitting on a branch was caught by the bright blue eyes of DarkClan's medicine cat, Moonfeather. She stood stock still, listening. She took deep breaths. One. Two. Three. She let her eyes wander up the side of the trunk, then me the cold gray eyes of an unknown tabby.

The rufflings and disturbances below her did not bother Twiggy for she had been in that tree for who knows how long and no one had yet seen her. But this one was different. Why this she-cat decided to look up in her tree, Twiggy will never know. But she did. The she-cat that Twiggy now looked upon was actually quite pretty. She was completely black, except for a moon shaped patch of silver fur on her chest. Her eyes were a deep blue and she was very lithe. You were hoping for this, remember? A small voice accused her, but the brown tabby couldn't help feeling panicking as gray eyes met blue. Trying to be brave, Twiggy stood up on her branch and quickly climbed down to the ground. Facing the unknown she-cat and trying to be defiant, she hissed, "Well who do we have here?" Twiggy thought it must be a DarkClan cat. The scent of herbs clung to her pelt. Twiggy infered it must be a "medicine cat" or whatever the heck they were called. The brown tabby tried to look relaxed as she waited for the cat's answer.

Moonfeather Her blue gaze followed the tabby closely as it drifted down the tree, landing nimbly in front of her. Immediately she felt her hackles raise. Aggression became her primary instinct and reaction, thought she tried to be as kind as possible in her answer, "You are not of DarkClan. If you were not aware, this" she motioned with a great sweep of her feathery tail, "is our territory. Now, I'll give you one chance to move on your way, but if you refuse I will not be so courteous." A liquid calm laced through her words, a tint of promise hanging from her lips as she uttered the last phrase. She had done her best to say this with an even, smooth tone that might have sounded as "Here, let me give you this fresh kill" to a starving mongrel. Perhaps her way with tone would be enough to avoid trouble with this patched work of a cat. [ my muse has fled and my time is short. Sorry for such a small response. ]

Twiggy's eyes couldn't help widening at the she-cat's words, Twiggy didn't expect this. Although, she had been hoping for a fight, perhaps then, she hadn't known what she wanted. Though Twiggy could tell this she-cat's words were laced with an angry threat that the loner could not ignore, the black DarkClan cat had her hackles raised, as though ready for a battle, if it should come to that. Twiggy knew leaving the territory wouldn't supply her with enough food so she tried to peacefully settle this. She also knew, that if it did come to a battle, the yowling of them both would bring cats for miles, and she couldn't afford an outnumbered fight. She tried to look frightened, though she wasn't, maybe if this cat thought she was scared, this cat would take pity on her and maybe she could get a couple of free meals. "I-i'm not d-doing anything. Simply r-resting b-b-before I con-continue on m-my way." Twiggy knew she was laying on a little thick, but her mother had always told her that she was a good actress. She cowered to the ground, trying to make it look as though she was weak, cowardly. Perhaps if it did come to a fight, she could give this cat a nasty surprise. Twiggy waited, and hoped.... {That's okay, Icestar } {I forgive you!}

Moonfeather
Moonfeather shook her head in disgust. Just because she was a medicine cat didn't mean she took pity on any cat she met who had the slightest sob story. It also did NOT mean she couldn't tell a bald faced lie from the truth. She knew this cat was acting, and it was plain in her features. If she were deaf, she might've believed her, but her over involvement in actions after quite the fluid movements down the side of the tree immediately warned her of a farse. "Get up." she said tersely. "Do you think you can fool me? I know what you're here for and I won't have it. This is OUR territory," she emphasized the 'our' with a flexing of her powerful claws, "and you are entreated to GET OUT." Her patience was at a very frayed and today. Moonfeather had spent all morning trying to organize her herb store, realizing only too late that she was running low on just about EVERYTHING. And cats kept coming to her about the silliest thing. "Oh this scratch looks infected. Could you take a peek?" or "Hey, my muscles don't feel right, can you see if I'm ok?" Oh the gall of her fellow clanmates! Those were trivial and provincial. They could look after those themselves! She had wastes her last marigold leaf on the bloody shoulder of a clumsy apprentice back from attempting to climb a Gnarlie. An exasperated sigh escaped her mouth as she remembered the events. What she wouldn't give to have an apprentice!

This cat was smarter than she thought. Twiggy got out of her crouch and swithched to a defensive position, baring her teeth in an evil smile. This cat had little patience, this cat was intelligent, must be a medicine cat. A warrior wouldn't be smart enough to tell she was acting. Though they would most definatly chase her off, they wouldn't know that it was a show. Twiggy laughed, trying to prove her defiance to this cat. If it was a medicine cat, she would be able to beat it pretty easily. Twiggy knew enough about the Clans to know that medicine cats didn't get much battle training. "Ha! If you think I'm scared by your petty threats, your wrong. Although I have to admit, your smarter than you look. I fight every single day while your wholed up in you little, cozy medicine den looking after those who actually do something for the Clan! If you want to take this matter any farther, you'll lose. But, if you don't want to die, you can let me hunt a couple times, and then leave. Or maybe..." Twiggy smile again, "I'll just stay." Perhaps she had hit this cat's weak spot, perhaps insulting her position, would make her go crazy, then, while she was ranting and raving, Twiggy could get a good grip on her back, and go for the death bite....

Moonfeather
Fury welled up inside of Moonfeather, but she remained calm, but her words dripped emotion and rage. "This only goes to show how little you know about Clan life." she growled, crouching menacingly, "You think I don't know how to fight? I go for battle training EVERY DAY and would kill ANY CAT who threatened my clan." As she said this, she crouched so that her finely toned muscles rippled beneath her coat in a way that wasn't visible before. Moons and moons of battle training forced upon her by her previous mentor had hardened her for events such as this, though her demeanor was quite amiable outside of battle. She circled the scrawny looking Loner, tail sweeping. "You poor scrap. I feel pity for you." She stopped, staring directly into the Loner's eyes, "You have no IDEA what the toll of being a medicine cat is. Its a choice not made lightly. Every night I stay up late, looking over patients whom I don't know will make it through the night, and if they DON'T, well, guess who's shoulder's that blame and hate from family members is thrust upon, even though I tried my very best to save them? Mine. You selfish creature. You have no sense of self worth and sacrifice. So if you think you can just waltz in here and help yourself to the prey we work SO HARD to protect? Well, you have another thing coming to you." A growl accentuated her meaning as it ripped through her pelt . She stopped, letting the words sink in, though her body was on high battle alert.

This cat looked angry, very angry. But she should have seen how much rage pulsed through Twiggy's veins. She laughed, though she felt no amusement. All she felt was a pulsing, intense fury. Twiggy had tried to negotiate. Twiggy had tried to be nice. She had tried. This cat left her no choice. "I know plenty about Clan life thank you very much! For your information, I was once a Clan cat, a loyal Clan cat!" Twiggy spat the words, anger was filling every vein in her and she wanted to scream at the cat, to rip her pelt into tiny bite size pieces. This cat didn't deserve to be a medicine cat if she angered so easily. I'm a hypocrite! Twiggy thought, cold realization corsing through her body. Stealing prey wasn't usually a problem for her. She thought of her mother, her father, the day they died. They wouldn't want her to be like this but Twiggy wasn't going to let this cat see her as weak. Twiggy hung her head, not in defeat, but in shame. "Well, since I don't want to hurt you, and I know as sure as hell that you don't want to hurt me, and..." she raised her head and tried to smile in a friendly way, "since I'm a nice kitty, I'll go." Twiggy knew this wasn't going to make her let her guard down, not that she wanted to. Twiggy may have been a lying, stealing, not even an excuse for a cat, but a sneak attack was just barbaric. She turned around and began to leave but knew one question would be pulsing in the DarkClan cat's mind. "And if your wondering why I left my Clan," she turned around and smiled weakly, "my parents were murdered and I felt no immediate desire to live." Twiggy hesitated a moment, wondering if the meddie cat was going to answer. The brown tabby was tired of calling her "this cat" in her head so before she departed, Twiggy asked, "You got a name?"

Moonfeather
A hint of amusement colored Moonfeather's eyes as she sensed the strange, jumbled emotions that coursed through the cat in a flurry. Her senses to emotion were more attuned than most other cats, which is why she felt it so easy to identify and soothe a patient. Moonfeather watched as the cat hung her head, shame coursing through her. Curiosity ignited within Moonfeather, but she lay it to rest. None of this cats business was hers. Her hackles were still raised in anger and defense, even as the cat turned to go. She was very suspicious, but sheathed her claws halfway as the cat walked away. Her eyes searched for any false movement, for any sign the cat might be bluffing. As the cat turned towards her, she tensed up again, her claws flaring out from their sheaths. The questions surprised her, but she let that emotion go unnoticed. "If you really were once a clan cat, you would know." She said. Every cat who ever was in a clan at the time her her birth knew who she and her sister, FireClan warrior Winterleaf, were. Their heritage was almost insulting, yet they had worked harder and harder each day to prove themselves. Their parents were exiles, probably the same cats who murdered this cat's parents. They were murderers and traitors, and were banished for their crimes. It was a wonder that such kind and wise cats such as Winterleaf and Moonfeather were their descendants, yet the darkness and realness of their past tainted them. Moonfeather was glad to say now, though, that she was well known for her ability to heal and her wisdom and cleverness better than her heritage. A gleam of nastalgia for her Clan and home twinged in her heart, and she wanted nothing more than to see her clan again and get out of this mess she had made for her and this Loner.
[sorry if that made absolutely NO SENSE whatsoever. Ha ha. If you have questions please ask. :] ]

"If you really were once a Clan cat, you'd know." The simple statement sent a small wave of fury through Twiggy's slender body. So now she was supposed to know everybody! She didn't care about anybody but her own Clan, and she had never been that social anyway. Other cats didn't usually associate with her because they had never had any reason to. Twiggy had never given them a reason. A quick memory rushed through her head.
It was cold, so cold. It shouldn't have mattered, but it was painful. I was so cold. I wasn't ready when the attack came. I had never been one for sneak attacks and the experiance made me more so angry about them today. And I didn't think the other Clan would stoop so low. Come to think of it, I'm not even sure what Clan it was that attacked us. All I heard were shouts of "EarthClan cats to the ready!" I was shivering. When the first yowl came, I thought nothing of it, She's trodden on a thorn, that's all. Of course I was thinking of that night's guard, Emeraldrain. But when she yowled again, and it was cut off, I knew something was wrong. I rushed out of the den just as the other Clan came pouring into the heart of EarthClan territory. I tried to yowl a more pronounced warning to the other cats before I was drowned in the awful scent of the rival Clan.....
Twiggy wasn't sure why she thought of that particular memory while standing with her fur sticking out across from the DarkClan medicine cat. It just came to her, perhaps Clans other than Earth were always going to bring back that memory. Suddenly, the rouge she-cat remembered what they had been discussing. "Well, for your information, I was. A loyal member of EarthClan. And just because your a medicine cat, doesn't mean everyone is going to know your name." Twiggy laughed a little, real amusement in her tone this time. "By the way, I'm Twiggy. Formerly known as Twiglegs. Maybe you'll remember me now." But if you don't, I'll certainly understand. I never was very social. Twiggy thought for a moment about adding the last two sentances but decided against it. This cat didn't need to know all of her personality traits.

Moonfeather snorted. "Why are you dawdling and trying to waste my time? I'm trying to look for vital herbs to help cure my clan. And I can't waste my time on conversational rogues. My clan needs me. Its leaf-bare and there are more sick cats in my den since I can remem-" she cut herself off. She didn't want this rogue knowing any weakness that might lie in DarkClan, especially after they just received a new leader in place of the malicious Deathstar and were struggling to make ends meet. The last thing they needed was to be raided or taken advantage of.
She shook her pelt fiercely, letting the snowflakes that had begun to fall drift off of her silken fur. Her dark, warm blue eyes were guarded and on high alert, and her muscles were bunched and ready to move at any moment. Please just do what's best for you and leave! She thought, worry for her clan spiking through her system. She needed to get these herbs before the frost set in! It couldn't wait! "Why don't you go pester my sister in FireClan. I'm sure she'll be able to teach you a lesson." she said dryly. If it weren't for the conditions of her Clan and the bitterness of the weather, she might have been in a better mood. But it was not so today; this cat had shown up at the wrong time in the wrong place. Gentle words from the usually amiable medicine cat would be rare to come across this day.

Twiggy jumped. A cold flake of snow had landed on her nose. It melted quickly from her body heat, but it left the cool wetness on her muzzle. She flicked out a bright pink tounge and licked it off. Yum! She had been slightly ignoring the other she cat as she thought about the white fluffy stuff that covered the ground and made a crackly sound when you stepped on it. But now, she was brought back and the tone and words of the medicine cat surprised her. Twiggy was trying to be friendly, something she rarely did and all this cat could do was wine, gripe, complain, and be just downright rude. "My Clan needs me." She said. "It's leaf-bare and there are more sick cats in my den since I can remem-" She cut herself off. Twiggy knew the slightly panicked look in her eyes and why she was being so rude.
1. It was snowing. 2. She was a medicine cat. 3. Greencough 4. If she didn't hurry up, any catnip she would need would be killed by the snow.
Twiggy felt sorry for her. Compassion was usually not a mood that showed in Twiggy's disposition, but something about this cat to whom her name was still unknown (although she had asked) that made her want to help. She ignored the rest of the she-cat's statements and said, "You need catnip, right? For the sick cats? Greencough and whitecough? Can I help? Just because I'm not a Clan cat anymore doesn't mean I'm not nice and compassionate."

Moonfeather was startled. She was still guarded, crouching lower. She knew this cat probably had good intentions, but she couldn't help feeling a little paranoid. "Oh and what's in it for you huh? Some nice fresh-kill that we CAN'T spare?" She lashed. Hunger and worry had gnawed at Moonfeather for months, and she was slowly withering down into a desperate cat that would do anything to survive. The thought scared her. Her thought process shifted a bit, and urned towards FireClan. Surely they must be doing better than DarkClan, with their rich forests and strong, numerous Clan members. She hoped her sister would be alright, but couldn't help wondering if maybe, just maybe, they could spare Jasminebreeze [the medicine cat] for just a few hours since Moonfeather had no apprentice to help her. She didn't quite know. Oh the hopeless state we're in! she thought. StarClan where are you?
